TEENAGER CLEARED OF PAUL KELLY MURDER
Avon and Somerset Police have said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the murder of Paul Kelly
Yesterday a teenager from Bath was been cleared of both charges against him by a jury at Bristol crown court.
Paul Kelly was stabbed and died outside the Longacre Tavern on London Road in the early hours of New Years Day 2007.
The jury at Bristol crown court found 18-year-old Nathan Dixon from Coxley Drive in Larkhall not guilty of murder and not guilty of manslaughter by provocation.
Mr Dixon had always denied the charges against him.
Detective superintendent Nigel Rock said: “We are extremely disappointed at the outcome of today’s court proceedings.
“Not only for the investigation team which has worked tirelessly since the murder, but also, more importantly, for Paul Kelly’s family who have always remained supportive of the police investigation.
“Officers painstakingly viewed hundreds of hours of CCTV footage, carried out more than 1,600 enquiries, seized 1,113 exhibits which included clothing, forensic samples, mobiles phones and CCTV footage and took more than 600 statements.
“Detectives spoke to a significant number of people as part of the enquiry but there were people who refused to come forward to give evidence for reasons only known to them.
“We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the murder of Paul Kelly, but would not hesitate to carry out further enquiries should any new evidence come to light.”
